Architecture is the designing of structures in order to provide an area which is simultaneously functional and aesthetically pleasing. Since the earliest days of civilization, architecture has been the most predominant source of artistic pride among countries. The early Romans and Greeks discovered the fine points of architecture, and were known worldwide for the beauty of their cities because of their magnanimous buildings and intricate designs. In the elder years, architectural designs were developed that still hold mystery for travelers, historians, and architects alike, such as the ambiguous structure of Stonehenge and the monumental pyramids of Egypt, the Middle East, and Europe. Historians frequently gather information about an ancient culture from the architecture of a people. The designs convey functional significance and the priorities of citizens, whether it be the importance of power portrayed by the Roman Colosseum, or the desire for religious sanctity as the beautiful Florence Cathedral of Italy reveals.
One architect, Frank Lloyd Webber, brought a unique development of architecture to America, and was known as “the greatest architect of all time. His inimitable designs of the Prairie School and Usonian home gave America a touch of artistic architecture, though his greatest work was his organic architecture, in works such as Fallingwater. The Taliesin West is the school for aspiring architects conceived by Webber, and carried on by his wife after his death in 1959. Today, it is known as the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, still providing education to students and now tours for his admirers.
Architecture is the most perceivable mark of culture in any city. The aesthetics of a beautiful skyline convey a sense of power, pride, and artistic sincerity. The quality of design in any area often reveals the constitution of its residents, and a rich quality of design displays the integrity and grandeur of a culture.
