In today's cell phone world, it is hard to find a phone that is not equipped with a camera. The quality of the images is not that of a regular camera, but still cell phone cameras offer users the ability to document the visual world in an instant and the opportunity to exchange picture messages in an efficient and reliable way. The amount of megapixels a cell phone camera can capture determines the quality of the image. Cell phone camera's are currently limited in the amount of megapixels they capture; however new technology is under development to increase their megapixel capabilities and allow these phones the ability to zoom in on objects with greater ease and quality.

Part of the evolution in cell phone cameras is expansion beyond the still image into cell phone video. Cell phone cameras can record small amounts of video on certain, more advanced video enabled models. Cell phone video can then be sent in the form of a text message to be shared with others. In addition video clips, like cell phone pictures, can be stored in the phone.

Cell phone video and images can be quite large and take up much of a cell phones memory. For people who wish to save their cell phone video and images the most flexible option is a memory card. There are five different types of cell phone memory cards: TransFlash, Mini SD, MMC, RS-MMC and SD cards. These cards are not compatible with all camera cell phones, so be sure to know what type of memory card your cell phone requires.
