Cell phone technology has come a long way since the large, and largely unreliable phones of the past. Not only can the current generation of cell phone customers purchase phones tailored to their styles and aesthetic preferences, they can choose from a wide range accessories and software add-ons.

Cell phone accessories include, car chargers, faceplates, skins, Bluetooth headsets, AC chargers and phone holders. From diamond studded "blinged out" faceplates to "Hello Kitty", NASCAR or fashion designer labels, the variety in cell phone accessories available demonstrates the role of the cell phone as personal statement and status symbol. With so many choices on the market, its easy to see why just about everyone is sporting a stylized cell phone.

Different types of cell phones include the popular camera phones, where people can send pictures to friends whose phones are compatible. Another popular type of cell phone is the PDA phone. The PDA phone is essentially a mini computer that allows users to do everything from word processing to Internet surfing. TV phones offer streaming video technology whereby people can catch their favorite shows anywhere they are able to get a cell phone signal. Bluetooth phones are what tech professionals are calling the future. Bluetooth phones communicate with other Bluetooth devices via wireless technology. Wireless bluetooth technology allows users to conduct their call wearing a headset; freeing up their hands. Bluetooth connectivity may even render the long standing business card obsolete as now users can simply beam their contact information into their new contact's phone.

Though all of these phones are available to consumers, one phone seems to have captured the imagination of the public and that phone is the iPhone. The iPhone combines cellular technology with Mac innovation to produce a product that is both visually appealing and user friendly. Apple's new 3g iPhone allows people to make calls using what Apple calls an "intelligent keyboard". Music enthusiasts can enjoy mp3's and shop for music through iTunes. Those with a data plan can browse the Internet, use email and chat on Instant Messenger services, and travelers need never be lost again with features such as GPS, which allows people access to maps though Global Positioning Satellite technology.
