On Halloween night, getting children to eat anything good for them is a very difficult feat. As a rule, kids generally eat sparingly because they are saving their appetites for all the candy they plan to collect from trick-or-treating. Maybe you might need to try a new recipe.…
Cauldron of Bubbly, Cheesy Bean Soup: This recipe will have them forgetting about chocolate bars in no time. Saute 1 pound of ground beef until browned into a pan. Add 1 can of cheese soup and a can water and bring to a simmer. Add 1 package of cheddar cheese. Stir until melted. Remove from heat and add 1 can of kidney beans and 1 can of black beans and return to stove to simmer. Spoon into bowl and serve with salsa.
Ghostly Shepherd's Pie: Put a haunted spin on a classic recipe. This shepherd's pie recipe will let them get into the holiday spirit while getting them to eat the meat, vegetables, and starches they should. Heat oven to 375 degrees farenheit. Brown 1 pound of ground beef on an oiled skillet. Add 1 coarsely chopped medium onion and saute until translucent. Drain excess fluid and return to heat. Add 2 cups of frozen vegetables (setting aside 12 peas for garnish), 1 can of diced tomatoes, and 1 can of gravy. Once heated, spoon the mixture into a baking pan. Prepare microwavable mashed potatoes and set spoonfuls atop the beef mixture to resemble ghosts. Use the peas for eyes on your ghosts! Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the ghost potatoes become golden and set.
