Many people dream of owning a beautiful flower garden, but may believe they must possess a bright green thumb to successfully create one. Thanks to family, friends, garden centers, and the Internet, this is just not true! Even if you have never grown a plant in your entire life, there is help out there.
Starting a garden is quite simple. Begin by deciding where you'd like to place it. There is a variety of stones and markers available to fence in the area of the yard where you wish your garden to grow. Other tools you will need are a small, handheld trowel (shovel), a watering can, seeds, and a pair of gloves if you don't like to get dirty. Take care to select plants that will grow successfully at the time of year in which you are planting your garden.
The way you want the garden to look is entirely up to you...that's the beauty of this fun hobby. You decide what grows, and how! You can do a single row of each variety of flowers you are planting, or mix them up for a more colorful garden. Your local garden center has a host of seeds or pre-sprouted plants you can transplant. Many people use their gardens to grow their own vegetables and herbs for food and medicine. Common vegetables for home gardens are tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, and root vegetables such as potatoes. Or why not spice up that spaghetti sauce with some basil, thyme or rosemary you've grown yourself. Once you have the seeds planted, be sure to give your garden some water and TLC daily as you watch it bloom into a beautiful creation that is uniquely yours.
