International concepts deal with the different nations into which are planet is divided. Interpreted literally, they concern relations between and across nations involving global resources like water, oil, air, food, animals, plants, people, laws, trade, and travel, and culture to name only a few.
Tens of thousands of people travel outside their native countries every year. Some immigrate to take up residence in a new country. Some travel as tourists or people who visit a country for less than one year
Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) works to promote international tourism, especially in developing countries whose economies benefit greatly from the influx of foreign money. The money tourists spend on a trip helps developing countries develop their infrastructure. Take, for example, the developing African nations Namibia and Kenya. These countries are world renowned for their wild life safaris. The wildlife park in Namibia, Etosha National Park, offers visitors an opportunity to view exotic animals in their natural habitat. Another allure of international tourism is the opportunity to see different landscapes such as the Namib Desert. The Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world and Africa's second largest; famous for its very high dunes the desert is located in the west of the country, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Kenya, a country in east Africa is another famous tourist destination. Kenya is known for its safaris. From the deserts in Africa to the rain forests in South and Central America to the urban jungles of New York City, international travel is a great way to expand one's horizons - literally.
Another form of international relations is through cultural exchange often in the academic arena via conferences or exchange student programs. Exchange students are students that come from another country to study.
International students, as they are popularly known get an opportunity to gain skills that they would not otherwise acquire; were they doing their studies only in their home countries. International students learn and live in a new language and culture where they are exposed to a wider set of ideas. Similarly, they bring new ideas to their hosts families and help those around them see that the world is bigger than just the town in which they live. Also, international students can help their families sending foreign currencies back home.
However, change is not always easy. International travelers and exchange students may find it challenging to adapt to the culture of the host country. It can be difficult to understand the meaning of different customs and to make new friends. But as time goes by, international travelers eventually find paths into the new society.
