Camping is an exciting way to stay somewhere inexpensively and in nature on vacation, just an overnight trip into the woods, or maybe just a night air sleepover in your backyard! Instead of modern conveniences that large hotel chains offer, camping allows you to get in touch with nature and your adventurous side. Although camping has evolved into mobile campers and trailers with beds and tables, refrigerators and small stoves, there is still a natural, more primitive aspect to it.
Camping is a popular pastime while hiking and visiting the mountains whether it is in remote forest locations or established campgrounds. Camping near the beach is ever-increasing in popularity, as well. Many campgrounds line heavily visited shores around the country.
For shelter, you can camp in a tent or a pop-up camper. Tents come in all shapes and sizes from the simple pup tent to the multi-person domes that are quite roomy. Pop up campers fold out to make beds on either side, but are contained in a box-like trailer on wheels. Other trailers are called Recreational Vehicles (commonly referred to as RVs) which allow vacationers to drive to a destination, pull off the road, and stay the night virtually anywhere. RV's have water, bathroom and cooking facilities; as well as air conditioning. You may never know you left your house!
No matter what method of camping you intend; camping gear is always a necessity. It differs depending on whether you're using a tent or a camper, and whether you're driving in to a location or hiking there. Generally speaking, you will need tarps (for extra covering), a sleeping bag, matches, small outdoor chairs, frying pan/pot, small mugs/plates/bowls, silverware, a good knife or multi-functional tool, insect repellent, flashlight, and biodegradable toilet paper.
